In School Every Day: Addressing Chronic Absenteeism Among Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness

In this webinar, presenters will explore evidence-based strategies to prevent and address chronic absenteeism among children and youth experiencing homelessness (CYEH) at the student and system levels.

By watching this webinar viewers will:

  • have a clear understanding of chronic absenteeism, including its effects on CYEH and, more broadly, schools, and LEAs;
  • be aware of key strategies to address chronic absenteeism among all students (multi-tiered approach) and CYEH specifically, including the role of data in informing efforts and how to access relevant data; and

Chronic Absenteeism Among Students Experiencing Homelessness in America: School Years 2016-17 to 2020-21

This brief discusses the number and rate of students who experienced homelessness using school- and district-level data from School Years 2016-17 through 2018-19. School Years 2019-20 and 2020-21 are provided in an appendix, along with a discussion of school district data that highlights differences in the rates of students who were homeless in rural, suburban, town, and urban districts.
