Supporting Young Children Experiencing Homelessness

Collaboration between practitioners of Education for Homeless Children and Youths (EHCY) and Head Start can increase the identification of young children experiencing homelessness and connect them to appropriate wraparound and educational support services. In this NCHE webinar tailored for school district and Head Start staff, participants will: Learn about school district and Head Start collaboration by combining the rights and services for preschool-age children under the McKinney-Vento Act with services for families with children through the Head Start Act; Gain an understanding of how state EHCY programs — Nevada and North Carolina — are supporting coordination between school districts and Head Start programs; and Hear promising practices to increase opportunities for sustainable collaboration between school districts and Head Start programs.
